A Play about speed cameras
The Day my life ended!
Scene One
Picture a nice family living in a reasonable sized house in the country! Mum, Dad. Son about 11 Sister of 8 and another about 4. Dad is a service engineer for an IT company Drives 35,000 mile/year.
Then the letters start arriving! Dad is pinged 6 times over a 2-week period on a section of urban DC that he has driven on for years without issue. However LA has recently dropped the

to a

by simply removing the

lollypops but not doing anything else to inform the public (apart from the obligatory 3 line, small print, announcement on page 14 of the local free paper!)
Mum cries a lot!
Scene two!
A short time later!
Dad doesn’t go to work anymore! The family doesn’t go shopping any more. Food arrives in the “Occado” van but it is all in white packets (The budget range) and mostly tastes of cardboard.
The Family holiday is cancelled!
The central heating is switched off, as are most of the lights! With winter approaching it is getting really rather cold!
Mum and Dad get on each other’s nerves a lot. Neither Mum nor Dad can work since Mum never learned to drive, Dad can’t and there is no public transport in this part of the country.
Scene three!
Dad has nervous breakdown and commits suicide!
House is repossessed by building society
Scene three (alternative)
Dad manages to find a job locally that will pay the bills! Things are looking up at last. In fact he is adjusting to the idea of a slower paced life and is even looking forward to it. Cycling the 8 miles each way to work and back each day should do wonders for his health not to mention his waistline!
Unfortunately; Dad hasn’t cycled since he was a child (and he wasn’t very good then) Two weeks later he is stuck and killed by a lorry!
House is repossessed by building society!
Scene four!
Mum, Son and both sisters now live in squalid bed-sitter above a crack house. Mum cries a lot, drinks cheep Gin and smells bad!
The older sister has been groped by the spooky guy living next door and somebody was shot just outside the house last week!
You never see a Policeman. Mum (during brief moments of sobriety) explains that this is because they are too busy dealing with more important issues, such as speeding motorists!
Scene five
The Son, by now 13, hates Policemen with a vengeance and is becoming increasingly familiar with the “manager” of the crack house!
He really likes his new Desert Eagle!!!
