The Man I can understand your view, however, people have lost licences over incorrectly signed areas and incorrect speed enforcement. Also by being caught on camera doing 35 in a 30 limit four times is twelve points and a ban who is worse the driver above or the muppet doing 159 and was reported by his collegues who thought he was really out on a jolly. Sooner rather than later I fear someone who needs a licence as part of his job will lose their job as a result of speeding penalties. I don't see that the police are or should be an exception.

The courts lend greater weight to the word of a police officer than your normal civilian yet they are subject to the same human weaknesses as all of us.

Unfortunately the bulk of the officers I have met in the course of my professional and personal life have been smart arse upstarts who seem to think they are something special, with that sort of arrogance who can wonder that the police and the court system is being viewed more and more as the enemy.

There are exceptions but IMO the 'professional copper' is becoming a dying breed.

Agreed - why should that be so, even if its the word of one officer against several upstanding community members. When we have seen the lies that have been emitted from officers (perhaps a minority) mouths just to get the pinch, you have to wonder.


Like my wife who got a FPN with 3 a couple of months ago from a mobile camera (crap photos from 200 yards away and the usual threats in the notice). Fair cop though, she shouldn't have been speeding. In her defence though, the road was empty, no kids about, dry clear conditions etc (safe speed and all that! The road also used to be a 40 mph zone before it was dropped to 30)

Unfortunately, today, she got caught using her mobile in the car for 30 seconds today when I phoned her about an emergency with the kids at school. She effectively called a liar by the officer when she explained why she had answered the phone, who also wanted to know my number (WTF is that to do with him under data protection..I don't want my number in his pocket book or on the the PNC). He told her she could get points on her licence (for a non-endorsable offence) and proceeded to really upset her. His collegue was kind apparently, so they were playing the old good cop, bad cop on her.

She ended up with a £30 ticket (fair enough as she shouldn't have answered it), but all the threats of points etc to an already upset woman was over the top when a good lecture and a warning would have sufficed as she is a law abiding citizen. +1 to the stats and coffers though.

So when I got home, I asked her if she would help any police enquiry ever again. The answer is unprintable on a family forum, but tou get the idea.

Until I explained to her that she wasn't getting points she was talking about giving up driving. Thats from someone who has had a clean sheet for the last 15 years with no accidents or convictions.


Yes, the impression you get now is that they are dying out. I happen to talk frequently to our beat bobby who I would consider to be a "real" copper - he is sound as a pound and not some little jumped up snot who has just got out of Hendon.

Personally, I have always tried to respect the Police for what they represent and do....however, many of them are eroding this away.

As to our 159mph friend....He should have been banned and disciplined.

Not so much for the speed (if he was on a shout, which he wasn't)- for the stupid statement about "testing" his vehicle. If he was testing it, it should have been done on a closed course (ie a track) so that he could find out all of the handling and performance parameters without endangering others. What would have happened if he had exceeded said parameters and wrapped himself around a tree or another road user?

What do you think would happen to me if I was caught at 160 on my bike and came out with that crap??? I would probably go to jail. If, however, I was riding safely, not endangering other road users conditions were good etc, then a large fine could be commensurate with the offence.

Would that happen? I think not because I do not possess a warrant card

This thread should be down loaded and forwarded to the Police (ACPO and Police Federation), all major newspapes and media organisations, and the main political parties.

Ok we come from a certain view point but....we are law abiding individuals with no particluar political axe to grind. I suspect we are all from 'police respecting' stock yet these are our views having been subjected to the current situation.

Someone who really cares about policing in this country should read all of this and take bloody good notice!

Exactly. Its time they got out of their ivory towers and listed to what normal Joe Public thinks!

The problem is that our "masters and betters" don't care what Joe Public thinks, because they have their hands on "the levers of power" and we don't... And anyway, they know better than us.
