Safespeed along with many other sites dealing with road safety issues are
all to be congratulated for the information they supply, along with the effort applied to the subject. But! what is bieng achieved? our roads are bristling with anti-motorist devices, our courts are full of drivers targeted by unjust and petty laws, and our so called government is jack booting it's way toward total state control of our lives.

This no critic of this site or any other, but a deep and nagging concern.

At least trying is better than doing nothing. And there has been a lot of sympathetic press coverage.

The "Safety Camera Partnerships" have no credibility, and road fatalities are actually rising now.

Reputable bodies such as the IAM are expressing serious concern about current speed camera policy.

If you push at a door, it can for a long time feel totally solid, but then you suddenly burst through.

I continue to be hopeful

You keep chipping away. Lancs revised its policy over the 1-35mph only invite tthe Speed Course after a lot of protests to the Partnership.

They have still insisted on more scams in the area (found two new ones!) - but at least the 10% plus 2 brigade are sent letters and 10% plus 4 are invited to the Speed Course as alternative to points. They even extended this across the speed limit range.

Not a vast concession - but still a step in a slightly fairer direction.

But sooner or later - by constantly pointing out the problems of the scam - we may get the trafpols back and pratnerships disbanded.

Or at least a better and fairer deployment - which would address safe practice and natural justice.

A great deal is being achieved, believe me, I know. I've had some amazing conversations with important and influential people over the last 18 months or so.

As far as actual change is concerned, well it's chip chip chip.

There's no room for doubt that road safety policy is a massive failure and change is inevitable. When change comes (and with a bit of luck) we'll be centre-stage because no one else is developing "post camera" policy.
