Tone.

Here you go...

I've been keeping up with the comments over the last couple of days. All the 'pro' arguments are either emotive or involve complete rubish statistcs. One comment even states 'Speed is a contributary factor in most crashes'

Yup. Anything over 0mph = speed.

Thanks Sixy - Perfect. Much more graphic :) Can it be added to the list of Emoticons?

Well, I can get up to about 35 mph in reverse without my speedo registering anything, so perhaps it's not possible to speed backwards according to the law

What REALLY gets me about this article is the opening paragraph. Read.

"they are the ones madly waving their hands after unleashing a torrent of body language, uselessly covering their faces with their hands as though this suddenly makes their registration plates invisible"

Obviously, causing motorists to take their hands off the wheel to cover their faces or wave them about is doing a massive lot of good for road safety. In my opinion, a driver who reacts like that is probably a bit of a nutter anyway (who covers their face whilst driving?!) but pointing a speed gun at them is evidently only heightening the problem. How can they start an article in this way and then still go on to try and take a pro camera stance? Do they not see the irony...

No. The Sloppy Star won't see the irony. They never have done.

This story and it's link was removed from the front page some time ago, I suspect because the vast majority of comments were "anti" or disagreed with the message they were attempting to portray. Same with their recent "smoking ban is working" story. The vast majority of postees commenting on the article disagreeing with both it and the ban meant that the story was very quickly removed from the front page.

BTW, sixy, the person who came out with "speed is a contributory factor in most accidents" quoted her statement from HERE.  Of course we'd expect carefully reasoned comments and advice on road safety from people like this...wouldn't we.
