"Casualty Reduction Partnership"

Another name change..... :o

Is this "speed camera partnership" or "safety camera pertnership"?

I wonder how much they spend on changing the stationary...

It is getting dafter.

Deaths are going up so they should be called "Casualty re-classification Partnership" :?
- thats what local papers say, deaths up on local roads, despite cams.
On their "smile camera "site they don't seem able to make up their mind.
One sentance its speed cams, next its safety.

Must be getting desperate - any one driving round warks this summer watch out - read this link as its not been in any local papers - why??

Hope they're not going to follow north warks example and try to nab motorbikes from front - :clap1:

I just wish that they'd make their minds up about what they're trying to do..
Quote:
Chief Superintendent Jon Bond, Partnership Chairman said:
“I don’t want people to be detected speeding, I want safer roads.. ...I hope that motorists who continue to choose to drive above the speed limit will take notice of this warning and slow down because the introduction of the motorcycle means there is now an even greater risk of being detected.”

Yet anyone who is caught slowing cars down before they go into a speed-trap is prosecuted for "obstructing the police...". :?

In the news today....Good letter

SPEED CAMERA MADE ROAD MORE DANGEROUS

10:30 - 16 May 2005
I refer to your story "Camera at crash site is destroyed" (Hinckley edition, May 12).

As a regular user of the A5 between Atherstone and Nuneaton, I would contend that despite the predictable response by Stephen Rumble, of the Warwickshire Casualty Reduction Partnership, the recently destroyed camera had if anything made this section of the A5 more dangerous.

This particular camera was placed behind the widest tree for miles. There are warning signs advising of cameras but there are no speed limit signs for several miles in either direction on this section of the A5.

The result is that many motorists unfamiliar with the area, usually driving within the speed limit, suddenly see the camera when very close to it and brake suddenly down to 40mph, obliging following vehicles to do the same.

The Redgate junction where the A444 crosses the A5 remains highly dangerous, especially for traffic trying to turn right on to the A5. Installing spend cameras has only added another distraction for drivers.

If Councillor Ivan Ould is really serious about making this junction safe he would be arranging for a full-sized traffic island to be built and to divert the Leicestershire side of the A444 around the south side of the Redgate public house.

This would enable traffic coming from the direction of Burton to turn on to the northbound A5 in safety, and would have the added benefit of improving traffic flows on the A444 towards Nuneaton.

In the past two years two completely new traffic islands have been built a few miles further south on the A5, at Nutts Lane and at Sketchley Lane. At both sites the previous T junctions were far less dangerous than the Redgate junction. Since money can be found for these why was priority not given to making safe the much more dangerous Redgate?

Of course installing a traffic island would also oblige traffic on the A5 to moderate its speed to negotiate the island and therefore mean that there would be no need for speed cameras. But then that would mean no revenue from fines. I think we can all see where priorities really lie.

Keith Charlton, Grendon.

Found an interesting thing at the foot of the warks scam site "Review/expiry: 30/11/2005"- or is it just wishfull thinking??

And finally from the Warks web site the disclaimer pointed to by the "Smile camera "page - "Disclaimer

Whilst Warwickshire County Council make every effort to keep the information on this web site accurate, they disclaim any warranty or representation, express or implied about its accuracy, completeness or appropriateness for a particular purpose. "
So does that mean what i think it does - answere on a postcard to
S RUMBLE

as mentioned on the a5/a444 gatso thread i think these islands were funded by the developers not the council.

Oops, does that mean Leics more interested in safety than money.
Hang on, must hide before someone from Leics rushes and says "all lies"

Now there's an interesting bit in the Coventry etc Evening Telegraph (Front page headlines) tonight - about £3.3 m in speeding fines and more scams to come in the midlands - not on the net yet will post a link if/when it comes on.

Just noticed today that the countdown signs ( 200 yds , 100 yds ) to the notorious hidden camera at the redgates junction have been removed.

I recall that these were added when justifying hiding the camera behind a tree.

Whats happened then, is the revenue falling ?

Just noticed a typo - Should be North Yorks - where aparently they had the brilliant( ????) road "safety" idea of photographing bikers from the front ,getting their registration and a photo of the biker .

If I were going to improve the A5 I'd start at Marble Arch and work my way up. Now there are some much nastier bits on the A5 than around Hinckley. (I've been there, bought my car there).

Anyway, seriously, improving bad roads rather than simply lowering speed limits on them - now that's a good idea! Yes, road improvements cost money but so does sitting in traffic, so does the costs everytime there's an accident.

Actualy from j9 of the M1 south to some where south (about j4) the a5 dissapears - solved the problem by renaming it a5183 - cuaght me out one day - traffic jam at j9 going south - saw the a5 signs and thought "i'll duck down a5" to find it dissapears with no mention of a rename - probably to keep us midlanders of it - more likely a "cunning dodge" to keep traffic of it.

A5183 goes through the centre of St Albans. If you really want to avoid the M1 I recommend that from J10 of the M1 you head for the B653 through Wheathamstead, heading for the A1(M). Only do this if you really have to.

The A5 changes to the A5183 on the South side when it crosses the A41 around the Elstree area (sort of Elstree/Edgware/Stanmore border, which also marks the border of the GLA, in which Edgware and Stanmore are both part but Elstree is not). The M1 has a junction there with the A41 for M1-North / A41-South only (so you can't nip from Elstree to Brent Cross on the motorway unless you drive up to Watford first. That is actually something I would like to see changed).

In any case the A5 is non-primary with the A41 forming the primary-route which is pretty much parallel (albeit not as straight). The A5 therefore serves "local" traffic through Burnt Oak, West Hendon, Cricklewood and Kilburn. The A5 between Marble Arch and the junction of St Johns Wood Road is primary, part of it forming the ring-road.
