Meanwhile over int the "MEN - Clarissa Satchell reports that Manchester is clamping down on bogus disabled badge holders. The council believes that at least 170 people per day use forged badges which cost £40 if you know where to obtain one...

These cheats park fro free and deprive the genuine holder of their space. :x

Local office workers in Byrom Street were under surveillance as they parked and came out of work to find their cars impounded...It seems they can check on a register these days....

The council is concerned over the scale of the fraud and plan to tow away cars and prosecute fro fraud in future.

The "MEN" comments on page 8 that fines should be high enough to deter.

No they don't. It costs them £40. And they still run the risk of being caught.

There are much cheaper ways of avoiding parking charges. I suspect the bit about forged badges is a bit of spicing up the story.

Most disabled badge abuse is people using a relative's badge without the relative being present.
