Has the law changed in regard to Taxis and one way streets ?

Went to fetch the wife from work last night at 10pm (She works in a part of my city called Hanley) I go around one-way system and turn on to a street which is a part time pedistrian way during the hours of 10am to 5pm (Local Council call it the Cultural Quarter lol) its a one-way street going roughly in a easterly direction some cars parked on either side, to be confronted by 2 Taxis traveling down the street in the wrong direction against the one-way signs.

I gave way to them as they did not even appear to want to give way to me, if I had done that (with all the cctv we have) knowing the BIB around here they would charge me at least with driving without care and attention if not dangerous driving.

All I can say is thank god it was a Tuesday as later in the week there's usualy a lot of people walking around going from club to club and as there's also a theater half way up that street usualy closes at around that time.

no.. no change...

they still have a law unto themselves

Written on extremely small print underneath the one way sign it says

" TAXIS EXCEPTED "

When the law changed allowing them to use bus lanes it just made it legal to do so, they had already been doing that for years here and getting away with it.

A few years a go I worked for a well known local bookshop in Hanley and was the keyholder for the building, was called out by alarm company (Redcare supposed to arrive in 10 mins or less) and couldn't get to building by car as only way around was blocked by an accdiend outside the bus station and double lines everywere. olny other way was accross a bus lane which I did and got told off by BIB waitnig outside building as he saw me cross it.

Funny he had not checked around the back though it was a diffrent story when we found a breakin there said I should have got there quicker as we may have caught them if I had.
