I thought you should be aware of the consequences of allowing policies such as our current speed cameras policies.

Imagine the government gets bored of chasing motorists because most have given in to their brain washing. They now need a new target to generate more income. Maybe they pick the “Disability Discrimination Act”. They could set up some computers that scan the Internet for websites that fail to comply with this legislation. If you are unaware of this act, item 4.7 might be of interest: “From 1st October 1999 a service provider has to take reasonable steps to change a practice which makes it unreasonably difficult for disabled people to make use of its services.”

A quick look at your website highlights dozens of non-compliances. Try a service like http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lingscars.com%2F for more details.

Now imagine each of these imposes a £60 fine and 3 penalty points. You will be banned from running a website for 2 years. You will loose your income, your business and potentially your house. On top of this, you could also be sued. 1% of your hits are probably from disabled users, each of these could sue you for several thousand pounds.

Would this be fair? I don’t think so. I would like to see some common sense applied to the laws and not have them enforced without-question by a computer.[/url]

It should be noted that a very large number of Government websites also fail this legislation - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4478702.stm. But don't use that as an excuse, as speeding legistlation doesn't apply to many officials such as chief constables being late for meetings, so expect to see one rule for them, and another rule being applied to you...

A very good example. Ling is running a car hire company, so does it really matter all that much if it's not very accessible to blind people. Probably not really.

Except that you're dealing with the sort of government that allows registered blind people a 25% discount off their colour TV licences!
