Near where I live there's a village where the local parking scammers have a bounteous harvest. They do so because there are signs nailed to the walls about a hundred yards apart that say "no parking zone" on a yellow background and which incorporate the "no waiting" sign - like the top part of the sign here, from the highway code but with the words "No Parking Zone" instead of "URBAN CLEARWAY Monday to Friday". There are no yellow lines and no arrow signs (normally used to indicate the direction(s) of prohibition).

Is this no parking zone enforceable?

I don't remember seeing "no parking" on any prescribed signs, only "no waiting" and "no stopping".

Even a controlled parking zone requires lines (double or single yellow lines or no loading blibs) along the entire zone, except for where there are parkigng bays. Oh dear, that means bus stops aren't allowed. *ahem*

Remember, everything like this is a traffic order. Maybe you want to ask for a copy of the traffic order/s?

Thanks. Does anyone know of a schedule of prescribed signs online?

Also, where would I go to access the traffic order? I suspect the highways department of the local council for anything except a trunk route - but I'm not sure.

Search for "Image 31 of 337 - Diagrams 601.1 to 606" and you should find links to all the diagrams. I think the parking restriction ones are around 660. Parking bays are 1028.x, 1032, 1033.

Thanks again guys. I've had a look through the section around 640 onward and can't find the sign they're using. However, even if the sign was a prescribed "no waiting" sign, I suspect that it would be unenforceable because I've found clause 24 of part II in the 2002 regs that states the sign may not be used except in conjuction with yellow lines.
